I have had episodes of severe chest pain, radiating to my left shoulder and jaw, I break out in a cold sweat, feel as though I am going to pass out, and I can feel my heartbeat increase. It happens randomly, and never during any type of exertion. This has been going on for about 2 years, and was happening occasionally (once every few/several months), but I have had 3 episodes in the past 8 weeks. I am a 40yr old woman, and there is a strong history of heart problems on my dad's side of the family. Even though it's terrifying when it happens, I hadn't really taken it seriously because the pain seems to subside briefly if I drink cold water. The pain is nothing close to indigestion/heartburn, etc. (I have had that in the past). I assumed if it was a heart attack, the pain wouldn't go away. The episodes last anywhere from a few minutes to 15-20 minutes. I do have an appointment with a cardiologist in 2 weeks, but after researching on the internet, I'm much more concerned now. Any ideas what this could be? If it happens again before my appointment, should I go to the ER?
