My question is regarding my liver.I live in Hawaii, currently on the transplant list. I missed receiving one twice before. It s almost three years now. My question is that I have been on lactulose for three years now. It bothers me a lot as far as abdominal pains, bloating and just feeling ill quite often. My legs are swollen really bad, discolored, sore and it seems as if the doctors here are really not doing all that they should be..I don t know what to do, I am at witts end .

Hello,

Your symptoms of swollen legs, abdominal bloating and abdominal pain are due to liver failure. Kidney failure can also give rise to same symptoms. As you mentioned, you are in due of liver transplant. You need to consult a gastroenterologist for further management till you get the liver transplanted.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
