Hello,

Lower back pain mostly is due to lumbar spondylitis, lumbar disc prolapse or disc degeneration disease, obesity, osteoarthritis of vertebral joints, and osteoporosis. To those who come to my clinic with similar symptoms, I recommend NSAIDs like Ibuprofen and Aceclofenac can be taken along with a muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxazone for 14 days.

To avoid gastric irritation, tab. Pantop 40 mg to be taken once daily before food. If you have bleeding problems or kidney failure, NSAIDs should not be taken. Then you can go with opioids like hydrocodone, oxycodone and Tramadol.

Physiotherapy and exercises to strengthen back muscles to relieve pain. Therapeutic ultrasound can help relieve pain. If all the above measures fail, you can have an epidural steroid and local anesthetic injection to relieve pain. You can have Dolonex injection for faster relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Pathologist and Microbiologist Dr. Shailja Puri's  Response
Hello,

Chronic lower back ache can be due to urinary tract infection or compression of spinal nerves caused by protruding inter-vertebral disc. I suggest you to continue the treatment as given by your orthopedist. In addition, urine culture can also be done to to rule out possibility of urinary tract infection.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
