Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 2 years and 10 months old. He was born when i was 42 and is my first and only baby. He was born premature after 7 months of my pregnancy and he was only 1 kg at the time of birth. He was in N.I.C.U for 48 days. He is having a problem of constipation since last one and half year. He has been on medication like lactulose etc.. but after some time it stops working. Is there any permanent solution for costipation.
If your son has constipation since more than year, he will require dulcolax suppository,to be put directly through anus into the anal canal or inside by himself or by expert paramedic.
It will stimulate your bowels after few minutes and defecation will be possible.
To avoid this recurrences in future, always give him high fiber diet means salad along with meal to make a bulky stool.
If still problem persists then,he should undergo routine blood count and stool examination with ultrasound abdomen to exclude any underlying pathology if any.
Treatment is mainly depend on the underlying cause but you may require antibiotics, antihelminthic with supportive treatment.
Consult some nearby child specialist for further evaluation.
