Suggest Remedy For Constipation Post Medical Abortion
I am 48 and in good physical health, 161cm, 50kg. However I had a pregnancy terminated 10 days ago (13.5 weeks, by vacuum aspiration ) and since then have been very constipated. I don t know why as I have a fibrous diet, drink water with every meal and cycle for 30 mins almost daily. Can you advise ? Louise
After pregnancy termination you are feeling constipation. You are uncomfortable. It is quite natural to feel constipation after pregnancy termination due to dehydration, hormonal changes, perineal pain, injury / damage to the anal sphincter or pelvic floor muscles. To help bowel move, take high fiber diet and start walking, avoid sedentary lifestyle. Stay hydrated.
You can include natural laxatives like papaya (raw and ripe). you can take stool softeners or laxatives at bed time. When you get the urge, do not ignore. Take whole-grain bread, brown rice, beans, and fresh fruits and veggies to help the digestive system moving. Stay away from addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
