Hi,
A course of
viral respiratory infection usually predisposes to bacterial infection. But considering that you have took antibiotics, you have to be reassessed for the presence of other symptoms like
poor appetite, weakness, body pains, as well as fever (can be
low-grade fever), which can be signs of a new infection. A physical examination would be important to check for what we call as "crackles", which is a sign of pneumonia as a cause of your cough, or just another upper
respiratory tract infection in its absence. But nonetheless, a chest X-ray would also be important to check for signs of pneumonia,
bronchitis, and the like which can be the source of your cough.
Depending on the cause and severity, the treatment would entail mucolytics and antipyretics, and possibly another course of antibiotics should the need arise. For now, I would suggest bed rest and increase in fluid intake.
I recommend a check-up with your doctor for the reasons I have stated above.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Daryl Derick B. Dizon, General & Family Physician
