I have just had surgery and have had a tube down my throat for breathing. Since the operation mu epiglottis has a white extension on it and is sitting on the back of my tongue giving the sensation of having mucus or food at the back of my throat. what should I do to remedy as it is causing a lot of discomfort
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have discomfort due to epiglottis. Well common cause of swelling and inflammation of the epiglottis and surrounding tissues was infection with Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) bacteria. Hib is responsible for a number of serious conditions, the most common of which is meningitis. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination without any delay , because it can cause breathing difficulty. Doctor may order examination with fiber optic lighted tube , neck X-ray , throat culture and blood tests. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics for at least 5 days along with anti inflammatory along with wind pipe in case of breathing difficulty . For now do warm saline gargles .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
