I have developed sudden dizziness over the past week. It occurs when I bend my head down, lay on my side in bed, or move my head suddenly. The room actually spins, causing nausea and vertigo. The episode subsides quickly when I stand upright or lay flat on my back, but yesterday at 4 am I was awakened by an episode of spinning when I was just laying flat on my back. I have no ear pain or pressure that might indicate an infection.
Thank you for your question on HCM! I appreciate your concern.
I think that your symptoms may be caused by cervical spondylarthrosis ( cervical column degeneration) or a peripheral vertigo caused by an inner ear disorder. The dizziness which worsens with motion is very suggestive for peripheral vertigo.
I recommend you to consult with the ENT specialist and have a careful physical examination and different tests to exclude an inner ear problem.
If the above tests result normal, a cervical column x-ray may be necessary.
I would recommend to start therapy with betahistine twice daily and avoid abrupt movements of your head during the day.
Hope to have been helpful!
