Suggest Remedy For Ear Infection, Swollen Ear Canal With No Help From Amoxicillian

My son has had a bad ear infection for a week now. He has pain, and cannot hear out of it. There is very little drainage, he has no fever at this time. The ear canal appears to be a bit swollen, in comparing his other ear. we have him on amoxicillian 5oo mg. and have tried peroxcide to see if we could unclog it. we don't know what to do from here. He is 30.

Hello. Thank you for your question. The symptoms describe something called. "Otitis Externa". This is also known as "Swimmer's Ear". As opposed to "Acute Otitis Media" which is an infection behind the ear drum and requires antibiotic, this is an infection in the ear canal and requires antibiotic drops in the canal. Typically, ciprofloxacin otic drops are prescribed, but your doctor may have another preference. I recommend consulting with your doctor about this.
