Suggest Remedy For Elevated AST And ALT Level In Blood
I m a 32 yr old male that is obese, but have recently started dieting and exercising. I just got back blood work and everything checked out normal except for my AST and ALT scores. My AST was 47 units and my ALT was 96 units. My doctor requested another lab in 2 weeks. How concerned should I be?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
AST and ALT are liver enzymes that can be elevated in certain conditions such as liver disease, viral hepatitis, or injury to the liver. However, it's important to note that these enzymes can also be elevated in other non-liver-related conditions, such as muscle injury or certain medications. Your recent changes in diet and exercise may have caused a temporary elevation in these enzymes.
Your doctor has requested another lab in 2 weeks, which is a good idea to see if the levels have changed. In the meantime, it's essential to continue your healthy lifestyle changes and follow your doctor's instructions. Please don't hesitate to let your doctor know if you have any concerns or symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
