Thanks. I am a 77-year old male in Arkansas. My Mitral and Aortic valves were replaced with St. Jude valves in 1990. Since I have received a Pacemaker/Defibrilator, and a Staph infection caused my pacem aker to be moved to my right chest (from the left). My Aortic artery is enlarged about 50% and surgery is not recommended. I may have have had Rheumatic fever as a child, but have had no other problems. My question: If my aortic artery ruptures, can I survive the incident? Is there anything I can do to improve my condition and chances for survival? Thanks for any suggestions.
Hi and welcome to HCM. This is not indication for surgery since rupture risk is very low and only if diameter is larger than 5cm, sirgery may be considerd. You need to take hart medications, regulate blood pressure and body mass, avoid smoking, control your blood lipids and sugar and you will not have reason to be concerned. Wish you good health. Regards
