Hello,
Thank you for asking your question here.
Erectile dysfuncton in patient's with
depression is commonly due to two reasons- medications or depression itself.
One of the most common side effect of Celexa is erectile dysfunction
Since your husband developed ED 4 weeks after starting celexa, the chances are it is due to the medication rather than depression itself
Stopping/decreasing the dose of Celexa reverses the condition without any additional intervention.
However do not stop the medications cold turkey before consulting with your doctor,as this can result in relapse of depression symptoms.
Other
antidepressant medications like welbutrin,
remeron which has lower incidence of sexual side effects can also be tried.
The key is to find a balance in treating depression with minimal side effects tapered to each person's response to medication.
I would also like to know more information about your husband's history including any history of cardiac illness, other medications, history of diabetics,
hypertension,
peripheral vascular disease, history of trauma ,surgery.
As of now ,my recommendation is that he need more thorough evaluation and reconsideration of medications for depression. I suggest you follow up with your husband's doctor as soon as possible.
Hope i was able to answer your question
Regards,
Dr.Lekshmi
