Suggest Remedy For Extreme Hair Fall After Taking Steroids For Itchy Scalp

I had an extremely itchy scalp. It was red and oozed behind my ears and at my temples. I ve use 4 different prescription shampoos - the last being a steroid. My head is no longer itching, but my hair is falling out. I have a bald patch in the back and the temples are thinning. I have had two biopsies and two diagnosis: 1) Seborrheic dermatitis and 2) androgenic alopecia. I think the alopecia is caused from the shampoo. How do i get to treating the causes(s) vs. treating the symptom(s)??

Welcome to HCM. Sorry to hear about the hair trouble. A few points
1. Seborrheic dermatitis is what caused the hair to fall of, it will do this as it affects the hair follicles and glads and uproots the hair out of your skin, it has to be treated with shampoos and topical remedies.
2. Androgenic alopecia will cause balding, this is responsible for male pattern balding and that is why it is a hormonal component and nothing to do with the shampoo used.

So all in all I would find out the cause of the dermatitis as the treatment is dictated by the cause, if it is fungal in nature then it has to be treated as such, and if it is autoimmune, photo-therapy, coal tar are other treatment options depending on the cause. I hope this sheds better light on the issue. Please respond with further questions I am more than happy to provide follow up answers. Good luck.
