Suggest Remedy For Feeling Of Being Disconnected Post Intake Of Nortriptyline Tablet

My doctor has taken me off doxepin and put me on nortriptyline hcl and I am having strange symptoms in my head like feeling disconnected. she took me off over a period of seven day s and I was on 300 mg a day for over 10 years. please if you could give me an idea what is causing this i would appreciate it. I have only been on the nortriptyline hcl for a month but I am having these symptoms off and on each day.thank you cherie

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Nortryptyline is a Tricyclic drug and the drug is used in a number of psychiatric conditions like pain associated with depression, in insomnia, and also in some neurological conditions. Doxepine is also a Tricyclic drug and this is usually used in sleep problems. The reasons for your feelings like disconnected, brain fog like situation is most likely the abrupt withdrawal of doses of Doxepine. In most cases while changing the drug cross tapering is advised. Dose of doxepine should have been reduced gradually and and the mean time dose of Nortryptiline should be increased. You have been taking the drug since last one month only and in such case for your symptoms medicines like low dose benzodiazepines can help. These medicines when used on SOS basis result in improvement of these strange symptoms and you will feel better. If symptoms worsen then visit a doctor for help.
