Suggest Remedy For Feeling Of Tightness In Legs With History Of Back Surgery

I had back surgery last year. When I came out of surgery my left knee was very painful to the point I couldn t walk. But since the surgery, my left leg from the calf down feels like wood and both feet feel tight every night. Any suggestions what I can do to alleviate the tightness. I am overweight and I have DMII.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There can be various possible reasons for tight legs with back surgery as:
- Spinal cord nerve compression
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Obesity related
- Vitamin deficiency
- Electrolyte imbalance as hypokalemia or others
- Vascular compromise through atherosclerosis incidence
- Others

My guidelines at present:
- Consume more liquids
- Have a balanced nutritious diet with more of green leafy veg, cereals, pulses, legumes
- Multi vitamin with anti oxidant tablets containing zinc, copper, magnesium
- Anti-inflammatory medications as diclofenac or others
- Control of blood sugar on vigilant basis
- Avoid smoking if doing
- Local application of Caspacin ointment over more painful parts.

Do fix an appointment with your surgeon for further guidelines and course of action.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
