Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I accidentally cut my middle finger with a little sharp knife, it look identical to a paper cut. The cut was was thin but probably cut through a couple skin layers. I put peroxide and rubbing alcohol to disinfect the wound, then I placed a bandaid over it. After letting the bandaid stay on over night, I woke up and took it off and my nail hurts really bad from this little cut. Is my fingernail infected by this cut? Do I need to see a doctor?.
Since the injury has occurred with a sharp knife it will be laceration injury. You need to take injection tetanus toxoid as a prophylactic measure. If the wound is deep it needs suturing. If the wound is superficial it will heal on its own and it requires treatment by the use of antibiotic ointment for local application. Use of analgesic drugs is required for pain relief. Since it is a lacerating injury it is better to consult your doctor for examination and treatment accordingly.
