Suggest Remedy For Hallucinations And Paranoia When On Diphenhydramine

I have been taking between 1.5g and 2g of diphenhydramine daily, recreationally. Previously I was taking roughly the same amount of dimenhydrinate, also recreationally. In the past, I ve experienced hallucinations and slight paranoia, but never ny serious negative effects. Yesterday, I had taken 24*50 mg tablets of extra-strength Benadryl as well as 10*50mg liquid gel fast-acting diphenhydramine and within 1h I was unable to stand up- I had lost the ability to stay upright and I was bent over, hanging onto the side of a coffee table. Hello,

Diphenhydramine is responsible for paranoia, hallucinations and gait disturbances, falls and confusion and sedation. All of your symptoms are solely related to overdose and abuse of diphenhydramine. Kindly stop usage of Diphenhydramine at least by tapering like dose reduction to minimal for a week and then totally avoiding.

Diphenhydramine also has the following dangerous adverse effects:
1) Agranulocytosis
2) Hemolytic anemia
3) Fall in platelet counts
4) Urinary retention that aggravates with prostatic hyperplasia in elderly
5) Thick bronchial sputum with exacerbation of asthma
6) Convulsions
7) Tachycardia
8) Excessive lowering of blood pressure

I have mentioned all the above to warn you the consequences of using diphenhydramine injudiciously.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
