Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. The bump or swelling at
head injury site is normal. You should worry only if he becomes
: confused
: develop vomiting
: fits
: bleed through nose/ear/throat
: progressive decrease in consciousness
: progressive headache not responding to painkillers
As presence of any of above sign suggests dangerous injury which needs urgent medical attention. The doctor advises CT head in such case, to rule out
fracture or brain bleed. Fracture is usually managed conservatively, while brain bleed may require surgical evacuation.
If your son remains conscious, oriented, active, eats properly and responds well, then do not worry. For bump, you are already applying ice which is very good. You can also follow few tips
:Keep his head at higher level than chest to reduce swelling.
:Give him painkiller syrup like
Ibuprofen which also decrease swelling, after proper prescription.
Hope it will help him. Still no relief, you can
consult doctor.
Thanks. Take care.
