Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I've stopped salivating when asleep but still have copious saliva when awake. Hence, in spite of what over-the-counter dry-mouth medicines I take wake every two hours to take a drink of water and then have trouble going back to sleep. What can be done?
As per your complain it looks like you have a dry mouth and thick copious saliva on waking up is due to reduced watery content of saliva..
In case if after taking over the counter remedies for dry mouth you still have dryness at night then it can be probably due to mouth breathing habit along with other causes of dry mouth...
You can stick Xylitol patches inside the mouth before sleeping so that it will maintain lubrication inside mouth and prevent dryness and will also not disturb sleep..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
