Suggest Remedy For Itchy Red Vaginal Rashes

I'm 20, 5'5 and 200 lbs. I shave my vaginal area and it started to itch a few days later following a slight odor and some brown discharge. I figured it was just from shaving, but then it started to get red around the area and when I'd use the bathroom, it would burn on the outside around my vulvas. My vulvas are very red and there's a red bleeding bump on one side and a rash looking thing on the other side. What could this be?

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Itchy rash following shaving is quite common and related with irritation of the skin. Other causes like lichen sclerosus, folliculitis with blocked sweat gland, STD should be ruled out.

Do one routine urine examination, complete blood count and STD profile to clear doubt.

I suggest to apply 1% Hydrocortisone cream locally and take Cetirizine 10 mg once daily. You also visit to dermatologist for clinical examination and complete prescription.

Do the following things to keep better genital hygiene:

1) Wear only clean & cotton underwear. Don't wear any tight fitting cloths or pants to avoid repeated friction/ irritation. Remove underwear at bedtime.

2) Avoid using any type of chemical cosmetics or detergent powder/ soap or condoms/ tampons. Apply lotion after shaving & clean genital area with plain water.

3) Do not touch/ wipe out genital area too much. Also avoid inserting objects or douching inside vagina.

4) Take healthy diet with anti oxidant (like Vit-E/ C, selenium, zinc, lycopene etc) supplements. It will boost up your natural immunity.

Hope, I have answered your query. Good luck and take care.
