Suggest Remedy For Itchy, Swollen Rash On The Area Of Burn Scar On Wrist

I have a 1/2 x 3/4 burn scar on the underside of my wrist that is a couple of years old. A few days ago I developed and itchy rash on the scar. I have scratched it like crazy and now is swollen and has some fluid coming from some breaks in the skin. It s possible that it was exposed to insect repellent although I ve used it before. I put Mupuricin on it but it hasn t helped. Thanks.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the scar tissue over the previous burns is usually has varying strength to opt with certain frictional forces.

* It must be bacterial infection through breech in the continuity of the skin which has given rise to swelling and fluid coming out of the same.

Best tips of help at present would be

- sterile dressing with normal saline
- control of blood sugar
- anti histamine as diphenhydramine or others
- culture sensitive antibiotics as cefazoline, cephalexin or other to heal it faster way.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
