Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
About 10 yrs ago My mother started having episodes of loss of memory and inability to form words or the right words and fogginess. Usually occurs no more than a day or less. Never has seen anyone for it. Lately she has been tired and on a couple of occasions in last two months has had complete exhaustion where she can t wake up and has fallen asleep at work and sent home and slept all day and night. Next day fine. But lately she has experienced an almost constant fog . I sent her to dr to get blood work and referral to Neurologist. They quickly diagnosed depression and sent her home with prescription. After deciding that an anti depressant was not the way we wanted her condition treated she went back and they are referring her to a Neuro. They now feel that she may be having seizure type episodes. They are wanting her to still take the antidepressant. I feel strongly that she should wait and get more tests done. They said that the neurologist will probably want her to be on anti depressants. I don t know why they are pushing the depression thing. I just want to know would it be typical for a Neurologist to start a patient on anti depressants and THEN look into the causes of these major problems? This is from her primary dr.
