Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a colostomy and of course have the mucus, but I have trouble with it coming out. It gets backed up in there and I have bad pain from it. My doctor gave me enemas to do through my stoma to help, but like an hour later and I am backed up again. What can I do to help get it out and keep it out for longer then an hour?
Dear- you need to increase the fiber in your diet, more vegetables, high fiber cereals, low fat . It is important to drink a lot of water,at least 32 onz of it and avoid to drink a lot of sodas because that will increase gas without helping to move your bowels. Prune juice and the fruit helps to soft the stools and avoid the backed up. I hope my advise will be helpful Dr.Sara
