Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should The Patient Be Normal After The Colostomy Reversal Surgery Which Occurred After The Massive Heart Attack?
My 77 year old mother suffered a massive heart attack in January which resulted in a temp colostomy bag. Her heart function is only at 40%. It is now time to do the colostomy reversal surgery. The colostomy surgery was done 12 days after the massive heart attack. Should she make it thru the surgery okay?
Thanks for your query; heart failure is now one of her main surgical factors, but if she is currently well compensated on all her medications that would not preclude her surgery; the best approach is for her to have a preoperative visit with her cardiologist to give her the clearance from a heart perspective.
Hope this helps, wish you both the best,
