Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a male 21 years old i weigh 151lbs and im 6 foot 1. I have a constant pain in my lower right side of my back somewhere in the muscle and tissue area between my hip and spin. This pain is progressing and is more constant. I ve had this pain for a few months and feels worse. When I stretch that area the pain becomes more severe and it can be to the point that you want to drop to your knees. Any ideas?
This pain could be a spasm of the piriformis muscle which is present in this area described. This muscle spasm in turn can irritate the sciatic nerve running very close. You should get yourself checked up with your doctor for a physical exam which examines the spine, hips, sacroiliacs, sciatic nerve and the piriformis. A routine imaging needs to be done to rule out other congential deformities and bony changes. If the tests are okay then well supervised physical therapy should get you well soon.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. George Verghese, Orthopedic Surgeon
