Suggest Remedy For Muscular Pain From Long Term Usage Of Statins

I was wondering if this medication would be a good alternative for me. I was on Lipitor for years then developed the muscle pain side effect. I was then switched to rosuvastatin and had the same side effect happen with this medication. My cardiologist then changed me to pravastatin every other day and yes I ended up having the same side effect again!!! It seems I am not now able to tolerate statins.

Hi
I can understand your concern.

Since muscle pain (myalgia) due to myopathy is an important dose limiting side effect of statins (like simvastatin, rosuvastatin or pravastatin), I would suggest you to take either a bile acid binding resin like Colesevelam or another option is Ezetimibe.

These two cholesterol lowering drugs are not known to cause muscle pain (myopathy) hence can be taken if you are not able to tolerate various statins.

Hope this answers.

A feed back is appreciated.
