Suggest Remedy For Nausea And Diarrhea When Taking Magnesium

I recently started take 400 Mgs oh magnesium a day because I am on a low carb diet and hear sped I should. I have been waking up at 5 in the mornings, feel very nautious and have had diareaha. I feel sick all day for the last 2 days. I take Triamterence-HCTC 75-50 MG tablet Dailey. I just read it could cause these symptoms along with a ton of other things. I get really hot if I drink coffee or eat hot spicy foods. I have been on this diet for 20 days. Maybe my body is just trying to adjust to 20-30 carbs. I feel pretty bad every day but this is the worst. I thought I would be adjusted by now. I have an 8 hour drive to make and am considering not taking fo a couple of days to see if this is the culprit. I have been much more constipated since starting diet but take lots of fiber supplements. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi,

Magnesium is a potent stool softener. It causing diarrhea means that the 400mgs / day are too much for your system. You are risking a dysbalance in your mineral metabolism when you don’t reduce the amount of magnesium. Since your reaction to magnesium is so strong I recommend to try 100mgs / day. Even better would be a low dose multi-mineral supplement to prevent any kind of metabolic dysbalance.

A radical low carb diet is also not tolerated well by everyone. We are bio-physical beings and not robots. Therefore every-BODY will react in another way. Whatever you may read in a book about diets, in the end it’s your body that will tell you if you’re on the right path.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
