Suggest Remedy For Pain And Heaviness In Foot Post Injury

Hi. My Mom dropped a laptop on her foot. She is on a round of antibiotics. The foot is extremely hot compared to the other non injured foot and she says it feels like she can t move her foot. Says it feels like a brick and she is in pain. What should we do and do I need to take her to the ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Cold compression on acute injury helps to minimize pain. Diclofenac gel with hot compression plays a role to reduce pain further. Oral paracetamol or brufen is also used along with proton pump blockers. Rest of the foot is also necessary. If there is no cut injury additional antibiotics have no role. If the pain persists or yet increasing or foot is totally unmovable its necessary to do an x-ray as there is a chance of fracture or tear.
