Suggest Remedy For Pain And Soreness In Left Side Of The Hip

Hi, My 13 year old son took a hard fall on the basketball court 2 days ago. He fell on his left side/lower hip on the hardwood floor, not on top of anyone and no one one fell on top of him. He has pain and soreness, but no bruise or swelling. It s painful to touch. There is discomfort in walking and he can t run or stride. He says it s a little better after 2 days. He is able to squat and bend his leg, but there is pain. Is this just aches and pains that will go away, or could there be a bigger problem?

Hello,

Put ice or a cold pack on the hip every 1–2 hours for 15 minutes at a time. (Put a thin towel over the skin to protect it from the cold). Wrap an elastic bandage around the waist/hip area for support and comfort. Raise the hips on a pillow when lying down to help with pain and swelling. Give him ibuprofen. If he doesn't feel better, make an X-ray.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Blerina Pasho, General & Family Physician
