Suggest Remedy For Pain In Biceps

Hi... I fell backwards on my right are while playing basketball. My are from the wrist to the bicep has mild to medium stinging pain. Twisting the are as I open a door know increases the pain. Pushing or pulling with the are also increases the pain. There is no specific spot of pain and the bones all feel fine (no pain when pinched). I think I hyperextended my elbow what do you think?

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

It seems to be a hyperextension injury. A few symptoms are hearing and / or feeling a popping or cracking sound, pain when you touch the affected joint, pain when you try to move the joint, noticeable bruising around the joint along with swelling.

The treatment modalities are resting the affected arm, applying cold compress to the arm, compression sleeve and elevation of the arm if swelling is present. Over the counter analgesics like Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, Aceclofenac can be taken twice daily for 1 week. Physical therapy also helps in decreasing the pain.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
