Hello,
Thank you for your query.
Based on your symptoms, I would like to rule out
bursitis (inflammation of the sac like structures that provide cushioning to the joint) and
cervical spondylosis (narrowing of the space between the
cervical vertebrae that compresses the nerves causing pain).
I recommend :
- an orthopedic consult
- x-rays of the
cervical spine and elbows. MRI of the spine and of elbows, if indicated.
-avoid putting pressure on your elbows.
-maintain proper posture even while sitting (joints should be maintained at 90 degrees to maintain neutral position and avoid strain.
-take frequent breaks.
- neck should be slightly flexed while working at the computer.
- apply conscious effort to avoid hunching of shoulders.
-do not stand or sit for longer then 20 minutes at a stretch
-make sure your neck and spine are at a neutral and comfortable level whole sleeping.
-anti inflammatory gels with cold compress and avoiding pressure on your elbows will help with the elbow pain. If there is any fluid collection or Infection in the bursa, it will need draining and antibiotics.
Make sure you rest them on a cushion instead of on a hard surface and avoid putting weight on them till it completely heals.
Cervical spondylosis can be treated with proper posture, back and neck strengthening exercises, a hard
cervical collar that helps to relieve pressure on impinged nerves and
physiotherapy.
If there is severe
disc disease, you may need surgery to correct it. Prognosis is excellent if caught early in the disease.
I, hence urge you to seek medical attention asap.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
