Suggest Remedy For Pain In Lower Inner Lip From An Injury

Was using toothpick on lower teeth accidentally poked lower part of flap between gum and lower lip three days ago accidentally with a toothpick That broke in two . Very painful. Must have poked the tiny flap slightly
How long to heal ?? What can I do ??

Hi Dear,
Welcome to HCM.
Understanding your concern.

Well this will take at least a week to heal , but there is nothing to worry . Lip injuries are common . I would suggest you to :

- Give cold compresses to lip to reduce pain and swelling .

- Do hydrogen peroxide rinses mix with equal amount of water twice a day .

- Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and swelling .

If the swelling will go worse or start bleeding the consult oral surgeon for proper examination and to check out if there is any infection or allergic reaction.

Doctor may give stitches if the wound is large or may prescribe Tetracycline antibiotics .

Also start taking vitamin C supplement for quick healing.
