Hello,
Pain in the tailbone is called
coccydynia. A few causes of
tailbone pain are a fall directly on to the coccyx or tailbone, child birth, or obesity. Another possible cause of coccydynia is a
body mass index in women higher than 27.4 or BMI of 29.4 in men. If not, it could be an infection, bursitis of the coccyx or
post traumatic arthritis of the coccyx.
Pain relief can be achieved by NSAIDs like Ibuprofen,
Aceclofenac daily twice for 10 days. Also, take tab. Pantop 40 mg daily once before food. Laxatives to prevent pressure on coccyx during defecation help. Using soft seats and avoiding hard seats; ring-shaped cushions may be helpful. Injection of a local
anesthetic combined with a steroid given at the site of maximum tenderness would help relieve pain.
Ergonomic adaptation includes strapping of the buttocks, postural training, and the use of a rubber ring or a firm corset. A sitz bath over a tub of warm water may be helpful in relieving pain. High concentration capsaicin patch may be helpful. Thiele massage is a particular method of massaging the posterior
pelvic floor muscles to relieve pain.
radio frequency ganglion impair block is in severe cases. If the above treatment fails to relieve pain, surgery to remove coccyx is recommended. If the pain doesn't relieve with NSAIDs in 10 days, please see an orthopedic doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
