Suggest Remedy For Pain In The Ankle Post Stress Fracture

I was diagnosed of medial malleolar stress fracture about 2 years back. I was getting better, but last December I started doing vinyasa yoga and continued doing for 3 months, every single day. The stress fracture ankle got worse now with severe pain and pricking sensation around and below the medial malleolar area. I have intense pain while walking and standing.

Hello,

You have a history of MM stress fracture, presently you have severe pain and pricking sensation while walking or standing. You have been doing Vinsaya yoga. Yoga is very good but if you are not careful it may cause acute injury, nerve damage or planter fasciitis, etc., and cause pricking pain and difficulty walking. When the inside ankle drops in as you push with all the weight on the MM part of your ankle it increases tension and may cause injury / trauma. Be careful.

Every body is unique so you have to consider yourself and stay gentle. Presently you are suggested to stop doing yoga for a couple of days and give rest to your foot. To ease discomfort ice compression may help, soft bandage or crepe bandage may give relief (do not wrap it too tight, let blood circulate). While sitting keep your foot elevated on a stool or on a pillow when you are on bed.

You can start partial weight bearing only when your ankle is completely healed and you have no pain or swelling. For relief from pain, you can take Acetaminophen or Combiflam, one SOS after food. You are suggested to get a follow up clinical examination done by an orthopedics, get investigations and imaging tests done to detect any major complication that may require treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
