Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 12 year old daughter s left cheek is swollen and it is painful to the touch. Her tongue is also tingling. She said it started at school this morning after chewing a piece of gum her friend gave her. She was just at the dentist a couple months ago and had no problems. Do you think it is an allergic reaction to the gym?
As per your query painful and swollen cheek in your child after having chewing gum could bee possible as allergic reaction to any ingredient can cause swelling of sub mandibular and parotid glands in cheek and near jaw line. It could be because of poor immunity, dehydration or mumps in children.
Need not to panic about it. Visit general practitioner and get proper examination of salivary glands. Start the treatment as per the underlying cause. Symptoms of swelling and numbness will resolve soon after proper diagnosis.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
