Suggest Remedy For Painful Swollen Leg And Ankle Post Injury
I recently took a bad step down, and heard a tear happen behind my leg. It was really painful. The last two days, my ankle was slightly swollen. Today my leg and ankle are swollen, and it s painful. Of course today is a holiday. I don t want to go to the ER. I am presently icing my leg and I just took an ibiprofin (?).

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. Ankle is a complex joint. So while getting an injury it is better to rule out a fracture by taking X ray. Hairline fractures are possible in such case. It is not that emergency if you don't have severe pain. You can go to ER tomorrow. You can do ice pack application. This you can apply on and off for 15 to 20 minutes. This can be repeated 3 to 4 time s daily. Also raise the legs while sitting and sleeping. You can apply an elastic bandage and immobilize the ankle joint. For pain and inflammation you can also take over the counter NSAIDs like Ibuprofen. Avoid weight bearing on that leg. These all measures you can do till yo see your doctor.
Hope this may help you. Let me now if anything not clear. Thanks.
