Suggest Remedy For Paleness And Fatigue When Suffering From GERD

Hi, just a quick question. I have been pale and very fatigued for the past 2 days. Today I was sitting doing some homework and started feeling very dizzy and nauseous. Not 5 minutes later got the mouth watering feeling and ended up throwing up 4 times, of black and brown content, somewhat resembling coffee grounds. I have not eaten yet today, and have only had water and a cup of coffee this morning. I think it could be linked to my hiatal hernia or GERD, which I was diagnosed with both in August of 2013. I m simply wondering/needing a professional opinion on if this needs immediate medical attention, or if it is something that can go away on its own.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have history of having GERD. Presently, you are dizzy and nauseous. You have vomited and are feeling fatigued and pale. It looks like you are suffering from food poisoning or gastroenteritis. You are suggested to be at rest. You can take anti emetics to control vomiting. After your vomiting has stopped you can take pantoprazole-Pan - 40 to help reduce your discomfort.

Avoid taking oily, spicy food. Take well cooked or boiled food that is home made. Avoid taking packaged food. Take boiled water after it has cooled. Stay at rest and take small portion of porridge or oats meals multiple times a day. Avoid taking any food or vegetable that may trigger your symptoms of GERD.

Sometimes, such symptoms may be indicators of liver dysfunction. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get all liver function tests, CBC, Urinalysis, USG (Liver) done. You will be accordingly treated. Stay away from addictions if any. Take quality sleep at night. Stay at rest and take nutritious food.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
