Suggest Remedy For Paralysed Olfactory Receptors Causing Musty Smell In Nose
I have a contant musty smell in my nose, especialy when I am indoors. Sometimes it is extremely acute and appears to make my eyes sting. I have seen an ENT specialist and he has told me that a virus that I had in February has parralysed my olfactory receptors. He has arranged for me to have an MRI scan but doesn t expect that it will show anything. Is there anything I can do to aleviate this problem as it is really affecting my quality of life.
The prognosis of the condition depends upon the underlying etiology. Certain viral lesions do revert over a period of time and receptor can get sensitivity back to normal to previous level over a period of time.
However, certain viral and other lesions are much more destructive damaging the neurons and nerve endings with receptors for an irreversible damage. Kindly share your all reports with your doctor during follow up discussion for further guidelines of management possible in your case.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
