Suggest Remedy For Persistant Coughing And Gagging When Eating And Talking

I am an 81 year old male reasonably healthy. I have barretts asophgus that is treated with Omeprazole. mildly high BP treated with Lisinopril. asthma and assorted allergies treated with Loratadine, flovent, Combivent and an over the counter anti-histamine. My problem is persistant coughing and gagging when eating and talking. Although it may happen when I am dining alone. I have seen many specialists to no avail.
The feeling i have is that there is a tiny piece of food on my voice chords. drinking water is know help. the only thing that stops the coughing is to stop eating or talking and let it rest. I have been reading about epiglotis malfunction. Is that a possibility? Thank you Thomas Jones

Thank you for contacting HCM

From you query it sound like you are having uncontrollable cough. You list in your medication list that you are taking Lisinopril. As a first line look I would say that you are having a cough associated with lisinopril. In my practice I would immediately stop linsopril and change it to a ARB medication or other anti-hypertension medication.

If after this does not help please contact us again so we can continue to help you find a solution for your problem

Hope this answers your question. If you have any further questions please contact us again
