Hi,
Many things, such as a viral or bacterial infection,
food intolerance, or a change in diet, can cause loose stools in a 2-year-old. If your child is otherwise healthy and has no other symptoms, you can try the following to help alleviate the symptoms.
Encourage your child to drink fluids, such as water, clear broth, or an electrolyte solution, to prevent
dehydration. Offer small, frequent feedings of a
BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast) to help firm up the stools. Avoid giving your child foods that can worsen
diarrhea, such as dairy products, high-sugar foods, and high-fat foods.
Please
consult a pediatrician if your child's symptoms persist or worsen or if they develop other symptoms, such as a fever, vomiting, or blood in the stools. And if you have given any medicine to your child, please provide the same to the pediatrician while consulting.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
