Suggest Remedy For Persistent Pain In The Arch Of The Foot With Lump

I am a 52 year old female and I have been having problems with my right foot. I noticed it when I was getting a pedicure and when they massaged the bottom of my right foot, I had sharp pain in the arch area and had to ask them to stop. I have also been noticing sharp pain in this area and along the outside of my foot. When I rub the area myself, it feels like a small knot in the area and I can t push too hard on it, because then it hurts really bad and continues to hurt for a few hours. Of course during the warm months, I wear a lot of flip flops and go barefoot. Is there anything that I can wear, brace wise, to help this pain or what can I do? I hate to go to the Dr. cause I don t want anybody to touch the area cause it hurts so bad when they do and I don t like the pain.

Hello,

Arch pain commonly occur due to injury to the plantar fascia. There can be other causes of such symptoms like ligament sprains, muscle strains, poor biomechanical alignment, inflammatory arthritis, stress fractures, overuse, etc.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP. The GP will test the nerves of the foot, muscle function tests (you will be asked to run, walk or jog, etc), X-ray, MRI, bone scan of the foot and arc will be done. Physical therapy is helpful, it reduces pain and increases circulation to promote healing. Treatment will depend on the pathology deteted.

Custom fabricated orthotics or off-the-shelf orthotics may helps to relieve the symptoms. Exercises under a physiotherapist will help to increase the strength and stability of the affected area. You can take anti-inflammatory medications to reduce the pain. The MRI will help to detect the knot on foot & will be treated accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
