General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Traumatic swelling and pain in joints indicate trauma to joints causing swelling of joints leading to arthritis. You need:
To take rest
Hot or cold packs
No massage to joint
Over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen after food (dose as per advise your family physician)
This would help you for relief of pain to some extent but for complete relief / avoid recurrence, you should get the joints X-ray in order to find exact type of injury and then get specific management. You need to consult an orthopedic surgeon.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
