Suggest Remedy For Persistent Swelling In Preauricular Lymph Node

Hi, I have a pre-articular lymph node in front of my right ear. I noticed it approx 5 weeks ago, and had 2 weeks of antibiotics to combat it. 1 week after my course of antibiotics, it is still swollen, although the pain originally associated with it has now gone. I am going for an ultra sound tomorrow. Is this something i need to worry about? could I have lymphoma, and what are the chances it could be cancer? Ingrid Sheppard

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can very well understand your health concerns..

As per your query swollen preauricular lymph nodes or regional lymphadenopathy can occur as a result of infections originating from ear and other parts of head and neck region as well as at times infection arising from distant areas of body can cause swelling in lymph nodes from lymph draining carrying infection..

As you took antibiotics and the pain subsided there are chances that the lymphadenopathy is due to infection.
As the swollen lymph nodes takes a comparatively longer time to resolve after subsiding of infection therefore it is possible that the swelling of lymph nodes goes down after a few more days..

At times if there is no infection and the lymph nodes are persistently enlarged there can be LYMPHOMA formation which is a cancer of lymph nodes..
An ultrasound as well as lymph node biopsy has to be done to confirm the diagnosis..

Hope this information helps and thanks for writing to Healthcare Magic..
