Suggest Remedy For Persistent Tooth Pain

Hi. My son complained last week that he bumped his tooth on the floor at nap time in school. I didn't make much of it. But now, a week later, he is still complaining that his tooth hurts, and there is what appears to be red swelling on his gum above the front left tooth. There is also a tiny pimple like thing on his upper lip and there was a similar white pimple on his tongue earlier this morning but is now gone. He doesn't have a fever and is mostly fine other than the fact that the gum looks inflamed and he is bothered by it when he eats "harder" foods. I've been trying to find a dentist but nobody appears available to see him over the weekend. Is this an emergency? What could it be? what do I do? Is it okay to wait till Monday or should I go to urgent care?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain as your son had got trauma to his teeth there are chances that there can be fracture in the crown or root portion of the tooth leading to bacteria invading the Pulp (central portion of tooth containing nerves and blood vessels) causing infection and inflammation of the pulp and it has progressed to the area below the root tips leading to pus formation and the condition is known as "DENTAL ABSCESS" and the swelling is due to pus accumulation in the soft tissues..

The pus when has no escape way causes pain due to pressure on the nerve fibers in that area..

I would suggest you to consult emergency rooms and get him examined and medication should be started (antibiotics and painkillers)..

When you consult a dentist get an x Ray done and in case. If any fracture is observed in the crown portion of tooth Root canal treatment and capping can help..

In case of root fractures mostly extraction is indicated..

A pimple like thing on upper lip can be from bacteria infection and it will get healed itself..
It can also be due to viral infection (herpe)but confirmation and treatment can be planned only after clinical examination..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
