Hello. Thank you for writing to us
In
Polycystic ovarian disease there is hormonal imbalance and it can manifest as acne, oily skin, coarse facial hair. Your second concern is pigmentation
Treatment in PCOD is aimed at correcting underlying hormonal imbalance and includes monthly oral hormonal pills (containing estrogen and a progestational agent).
Correcting underlying hormonal imbalance would benefit acne and oily skin as well as coarse facial hair.
Metformin is aimed at correcting
impaired glucose tolerance that usually accompanies being overweight and thus helps improve glucose tolerance as well as hormonal imbalance that accompanies impaired glucose tolerance.
In addition to these specific remedies for PCOD I suggest you to use a topical antiacne antibacterials like
benzoyl peroxide for active acne during day time.
At night you may use a topical retinoid e.g adapalene gel over the whole affected area.
Adapalene is comedolytic and thus helps existing acne as well as prevents new acne formation.
Adapalene also helps lighten the acne marks.
Laser hair reduction with Diode laser would be best option for existing coarse facial hair.
Pigmentation and acne spots can be tackled once your acne activity is under control and various options that may be chosen from are
hydroquinone, kojic acid,
glycolic acid, arbutin etc.
You may also opt for a few sessions of chemical peeling from your treating
dermatologist.
Glycolic acid peel in quite an effective option for pigmentation whereas
salicylic acid peel is quite good for acne.
