Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am almost 50. I feel pressure in my chest but not painful. I can feel as if my heart is trying to climb into my throat. I get an overwhelming feeling to cough but I m not sick and don t have allergies. I am monitoring my pulse while I experience this. I can feel my heart hesitating or even skip a beat. Sometimes there is beats almost on top of each other. This has happened before. The overwhelming urge to cough always comes with it. When I cough it seems to line the rhythm back out. Tonight I had to cough more then once to get it to regulate. Should I be concerned?
It could be because of bronchitis (allergic or infective),pertussis, seasonal asthma etc where person feels pressure or tightness in the chest. You do not seem to be having any heart problem from all this symptoms.
You may undergo routine blood count,ESR with X- ray chest and pulmonary function test with ECG to rule out any cardiac arrhythmia.
You might require antibiotics (quinolones or macrolides or amoxillin with clavulanic acid) with cough suppressants antiallergic drugs like antihistamines or mast cell stabilizers) and antiinflammatories or analgesics on as and when required basis.
You must consult your pulmonary or cardiac physician to get diagnosed first and then treatment.
