Suggest Remedy For Raised Bumps On Back Of Tongue

I had a cold about three weeks ago and noticed that my nose was hard and very dry, so after waiting to see if it went away, I went to the doctor and it turned out I had an infection in my nose. The doctor gave me an antibiotic and now my nose is fine. However, the first night I took the antibiotic I suddenly had raised bumps on the very back of my tongue. They are painless, but feel slightly uncomfortable because I can feel them when I go to swallow. I wasn't sure if this is an enlarged circumvallate papillae? What can you do to treat that?

Hi...
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain it seems that you have got an allergic reaction to the antibiotic that you have taken for nasal infection and it has led to enlargement of circumvallate papillae and discomfort while swallowing is due to it only..
The first thing that you should do is to stop taking the antibiotic and consult your treating physician and he can change the antibiotic so that the allergic reaction starts resolving..
You can take anti-allergic medicines like Fexofenadine [allegra] or diphenhydramine [benadryl] for relief..
Gargle with 1:1 solution of benadryl and milk of magnesia.
Drink plenty of water and other fluids..
Take a soft diet..
Hopefully the papillae will start shrinking in 3 to 4 days..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
