Suggest Remedy For Recurring Blisters On The Ankle In Infants

My 4 month old grandson has a blister on his ankle. He has had one once before....recently. My daughter popped it...it turned into a sore...scabbed over and finally healed. It has only been a few days and it reappeared today. Email: YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
In my practice, I have found that the skin of infants is very sensitive, and minor irritations such as rubbing on a shoe or a car seat can cause blisters and sores.

I would recommend checking to see if there is anything that rubs against your grandson's skin in that area - is there a pair of shoes that pinches? Does a car seat strap rub against it? Does that ankle rub against something in a crib?

To help protect his skin from developing other blisters, wash him only with warm, not hot water, use mild soap, and use a gentle moisturizer such as plain vaseline over areas like the ankles and elbows that tend to get rubbed.

I hope this is helpful for you.
