Suggest Remedy For Recurring Lice

My children have lice. I get rid of them and they come back. Someone suggested kerosene oil for 3 minutes to kill them one and for all. Is that safe or should I try something else. I ve tried shampoos, bonnet hair dryer for 30 minutes, oil in hair. Tea tree oil, lavender, and rosemary oils combined with water and sprayed on..stl nothing

Hello,

Treatment for head lice is recommended for individuals diagnosed with an active infestation, and prophylactic therapy is recommended for bedmates and immediate members of the household of the infested index patient. All close contacts should be examined, and those with evidence of an active infestation should also be treated.

The treatment options are Permethrin 1% cream rinse (Nix): apply to damp hair after shampooing, leave on 10 minutes, rinse. Repeat in 7–10 days. Pyrethrins 0.33% shampoo, lotion (Rid, Pronto, A-200): apply to dry hair, leave on 10 minutes, rinse. Repeat in 7–10 days. Benzyl alcohol 5% lotion (Ulesfia): apply to dry hair, leave on 10 minutes, rinse. Repeat in 7 days.

Malathion 5% lotion (Ovide): apply to dry hair, leave on 8–12 hours, rinse. Repeat in 7–10 days. To be used in > 6 yrs old kids. Ivermectin 3 mg/6 mg tablets (Stromectol): single oral dose of 200 mcg/kg. Repeat in 7–10 days. Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim): 8–10 mg/kg/day divided BID for 10 days.

With the above treatment options, I'm sure you will get rid of the lice infestations. Caution is that you shouldn't use all the solutions at a time. You first try one if it doesn't work, go for the other. They may cause mild irritation to the scalp and little hair loss.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
