Suggest Remedy For Scar On Abdomen From Poison Ivy Infcetion

Earlier last year I got into some poison ivy and after it went away I was left with a really big ugly scar on my left hip. This year I have another case of poison ivy but it s on my right side and I can already see it turning purple and ready to scar... It s all over my stomach as well. This is devastating for me, because I have always been proud of my body and I am a bellydancer. Now I feel like my torso has been ruined.. And I ve lost all motivation to dance anymore. Please help. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the scars?

Hello,

For this type of scar formation you do have several options. Often dermatologist would start with a topical corticosteroid cream to be applied, medications such as Hydrocortisone or Triamcinolone. This helps reduce the likelihood of scar formation and minimize the inflammation. The cream, Mederma is also a good product that I have recommended which does a fairly good job in decreasing the redness of the scar and minimizing the noticeability of it.

These are good places to start if the exposure was recent. Longer term skin damage can be treated by a dermatologist using Dermabrasion, Laser resurfacing or various chemical peels. If the skin injury was recent I would start with the topical corticosteroids and Mederma first and then if the resolution is not adequate seek help from a dermatologist. But don't fret there are methods of healing the damaged skin that can greatly reduce the scar formation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
